Description
Dolcetto d’Alba shows a beautiful bright ruby red color with deep violet highlights, with an explosive and fruity floral fragrance that evokes the blackberry, the wild strawberry, ripe black cherry. The bouquet is dry and full-bodied, elegant and round, with notes of fruit and a wonderfully almondy finish.
Producer Description
Located in the heart of the Treiso zone of Barbaresco, Cascina Rizzi’s 35 hectares of vines, including 15 hectares of Nebbiolo in the Pajore9, Rizzi, Nervo and Manzola crus, make this estate one of the most important in the area. The remaining vineyards are sub-divided into Dolcetto, Barbera, Freisa, Moscato, Chardonnay and Pinot Nero vines. Founded in 1974 by Ernesto Dellapiana, the Rizzi winery is located in a converted farmhouse located along a ridge overlooking the eponymous vineyard. Since 2004, the Rizzi estate has been managed by Ernesto’s children, Jole and Enrico Dellapiana. Rizzi’s flagship wines are their Barbareschi and each cru is hand-harvested at the beginning of October. The wines are fermented in stainless steel for 20-25 days and aged in large, 50hl botti for 12-15 months, followed by an additional 12 months in concrete before bottling. The wines are then aged an additional three years in bottle before release. The resulting wines are noteworthy for their balance and finesse as well as the classic structure unique to Nebbiolo.
