Mainly Chardonnay and Glera with a touch of MalbecFounded in 1935 by Gaetano Marzotto, Santa Margherita was named after Gaetano’s much loved wife, Margherita. Steeped in a history of making Prosecco as far back as 1952, Santa Margherita gained its iconic status when it became among the first Italian Pinot Grigio to be vinified as a monovarietal, off its copper-colored skins enhancing its fruity freshness and bringing out the wine’s versatility at the table. The illustration on the label is of the historic Villa Marzotto, which was subsequently bequeathed to the town of Portogruaro, an hour’s drive from Venice.The bottle pays tribute to the illustrious history of the winery’s founding by the Marzotto family. The crest sits on an attractively-draped necktie, which reflects the family’s long history in the fabric and fashion industries. The front label is a small circle rather than a band to showcase the wine, but also includes a Venetian-inspired mosaic pattern as a nod to the Marzotto family’s regional roots.The blending of a fine Sparkling Rose9 wine is a delicate art, and Santa Margherita is proud to share this masterpiece. We start with a white wine made from the Glera grapes used to produce the aromatic Prosecco, then add Chardonnay from the Adige River Valley for a solid backbone of acidity, and a small amount of Malbec from eastern Veneto to add color and richness.Elegant perfumes of strawberries and citrus lead to an attractive palate with mixed berry fruits that linger on the finish. This wine is wonderful on its own, and pairs well with savory appetizers, complex seafood dishes and anything spicy.
