The Art
THE PAINTING: The Jockeys 1882; In selecting the art for this fragrance, the clear choice was the artist famous for ballerinas and race horses. This (originally) oil on canvas painting is vibrant with colors of all that is Kentucky Bourbon; deep and bright ambers, luscious golden browns and accents of intense cyan. Degas was a master of the “figure” and though almost all within this painting are partial, he does perfectly capture that most popular photographic “in the moment” style for which he is so well known.
THE ARTIST: Edgar Degas
Edgar Degas, a remarkable French artist of the 19th century, stands as a prominent figure within the Impressionist movement. Born in Paris in 1834, Degas is renowned for his innovative exploration of light, movement, and everyday subjects. His fascination with the world of ballet dancers and their rehearsals led to some of his most iconic works, where he masterfully captured the grace and dynamism of the dancers’ movements. Degas’ artistic prowess extended beyond painting to include drawings, sculptures, and even photography. His ability to convey emotion and fleeting moments, often in candid and intimate settings, distinguishes his art. While he shared commonalities with fellow Impressionists, Degas also retained his unique style, portraying scenes with meticulous attention to detail and a keen sense of observation. His legacy endures through his contributions to the art world and his profound impact on shaping modern artistic expression.
