Description
This premier variety of Trentino is exclusively cultivated in the sandy terrains between the districts of Mezzocorona, Mezzolombardo and San Michele all’Adige. Grown on alluvial soils, from the mineral-rich detritus of the Dolomite Mountains, where the Noce river stream runs into the river Adige. It is a small area where the grapes originate along a dried up stream bed, on gravelly soil. The training system is a mixture of Pergola Trentina and Guyot. The wine is styled by Franco Bernabei to Neil Empson’s specifications. The grapes are harvested very ripe with high sugar concentrations. After prolonged fermentation on the skins, the new wine is kept in stainless steel tanks and a part is subsequently matured in used barriques. In this way the wine becomes round and harmonious without departing too far from its traditional characteristics. Crops are around 4.8/5.2 tons per acre at most.TASTING NOTETeroldego Rotaliano has deep, intense ruby in color with purple hues and a very rich, fragrant bouquet. It is powerful, full-bodied, full of zest and character and deliciously fruity. Firm, round, supple and appealing, its ripe, plump, juicy flavors of wild blackberries, blueberry and raspberry, balsamic and violet notes and subtle almond finish combine scrumptiousness and finesse, charm and concentration, power and elegance. Enjoyable and food-friendly right from release, it is also cellar-worthy, with a good ten years’ longevity! Serve at cellar temperature, around 62.6 – 64.4 b0F.FOOD PAIRINGWhen Teroldego is young; it’s great with stewed fish, chicken and roast beef. With cellar age; it’s a match made in heaven with goulash, game, braised red meat, structured, rich dishes and typical Trentino cuisine.
