A family affair for more than 75 years, Azuñia Tequilas first took shape when Enrique Zepeda, one of the “Godfathers” of crafting tequila, worked on a family agave farm and joined forces with another prominent local farmer, Salvador Rivera Lizardi. Nowadays, Agaveros Unidos de Amatitán and the Rancho Miravalle distillery remain in the Zepeda and Lizardi families, ensuring consistent operations and the same product quality you’ve come to rely on through the years. So, next time you kick back with your favorite Azuñia tequila sipper or cocktail, take a moment to reflect on your roots or raise a glass to your own family.
Handcrafted using 100% pure Weber Blue agave grown in the heart of the Tequila Valley and then roasted in traditional clay hornos, Azuñia’s premium tequilas pack authenticity, tradition and depth-of-flavor in the same premium bottle. All of our tequilas undergo natural, open-air fermentation and bottling onsite to ensure consistency and field-to-bottle quality, so take a moment and taste the difference next time you sip it solo or serve it up at a special event.
Backed by time and steeped in tradition, the rich history of Azuñia’s land dates back hundreds of years. Nestled in the fertile soil at the base of Volcan de Tequila, in the heart of Tequila Valley, our family-owned farm is sustained by an underground well naturally filtered by volcanic rock. Pure, pristine and virtually untouched, this water provides drinking water to residents of the surrounding landscape, and it also gives our tequila its fresh, smooth and highly distinctive taste.
Smooth, clean and unquestionably authentic, Azuñia Tequila is the exclusive export of Agaveros Unidos de Amatitan and its second-generation, family-owned and -operated Rancho Miravalle estate. Equal parts inspired and painstakingly crafted, Azuñia’s award-winning tequilas are ideal straight up or as the base of any number of fine craft cocktails.
Unlike most distillers, Azuñia produces its tequila after following a natural, open-air fermentation process that can take as long as a week to complete. Double-distilled and extracted at 46% ABV, the product ultimately clocks in at 40% ABV following the addition of a pure, on-property water source. Azuñia’s tequila then makes it way to bottles for Blanco blends or barrels for Reposado or Anejo varieties before it ultimately hits your glass, but once it’s there, we’re confident you’ll find it well worth the wait.
Sitting prominently on the slopes of Volcán de Tequila is Sandovales, a historic hacienda built in 1821 that has housed prominent Mexican families for generations. As Agaveros Unidos de Amatitán acquired land for the Rancho Miravalle farm, Sandovales became a centerpiece for the family, and over time, the fertile landscape that laid claim to the only visible structure in the area became the subject of multiple legends and considerable local lore.
These days, Azuñia honors its rich history in the region by paying homage to one such legend. Ever notice how our signature Añejo tequila comes with a leather bracelet and silver coin? Legend has it, long ago, a failed robbery attempt left valuable coins scattered throughout the fertile fields where Azuñia’s agave grows today, and these little gifts are a nod to one of many stories that help make this land such a special place.
