Producer Description
Bodegas Fillaboa is owned by the Masaveu family, who traces their winemaking history to the 14th century, almost the beginning of Spain’s wine tradition. Although the family has since diversified into different business sectors, about 30 years ago Jose9 Masaveu Herrero decided to resurrect his family’s winemaking past with the purchase of Bodegas Murua in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, and then Pagos de Are1iz in the D.O. Navarra, and most recently, Bodegas Fillaboa, purchased in 2000. The winery is situated in the province of Pontevedra, near the town of Salvaterra de Mif1o, which is located on the River Mif1o separating Spain from Portugal. In a region where most wineries purchase grapes, Bodegas Fillaboa stands out with its exclusive use of estate-grown fruit, ensuring optimal quality and consistency for its highly regarded 100% Albarif1o wines: Fillaboa Albarif1o and Seleccif3n Finca Monte Alto, one of the only single-vineyard estate wines produced in the D.O. Redas Baixas. The Bodegas Fillaboa property is home to an impressive art collection, a beautiful tasting facility modeled after a typical Galician castle, and a state-of-the-art winery.Fillaboa is one of the oldest estates in Galicia and one of the largest in the land registry of Pontevedra. On it we find a Roman bridge rebuilt in the XV century, a 1,600 meter stone wall that frames the estate and a beautiful chapel dating back to 1909.The Fillaboa manor is a stone palace faithful to the structure of the great Galician houses. On it, there are several rooms for events, meetings and tastings with a warm and inviting ambience, accompanied by works of art from the fifteenth to twentieth century. At Fillaboa, nature surrounds you. In addition to an exquisite garden of camellias, olive trees, and magnolias, the Fillaboa vineyard is spectacular. 74 hectares of vineyard are divided into 12 delimited plots and oriented to the south in which we find majestic grapevines and trellises.
