Producer Description
Gianni Zonin has made Rocca di Montemassi into a temple of fine wine. His commitment and that of his family have made what was already in the sixth century B.C. a land devoted to Bacchus into a repository of absolute quality. In 1999, continuing their company’s expansion in Tuscany – where they already owned Castello d’Albola, in the heart of Chianti Classico, and the Abbazia di Monte Oliveto farm, in the Vernaccia di San Gimignano region- the Zonin family acquired this 430-hectare property in the Maremma, of which 160 hectares are planted with vines. Together with Sangiovese and Vermentino, which are clear markers of its Tuscan identity, Syrah, Cabernet, Petit Verdot, Merlot and the white Viognier are grown. Gianni Zonin’s decisions have endorsed an approach that strictly follows local traditions: on the one hand, restoration that is as respectful as possible of the pre-existing premises for the creation of the company buildings, in line stylistically with other constructions in the area rather than going all out for modernity and, on the other, particular attention to ecological sustainability. Hundreds and hundreds of olive trees, maritime pines, oleanders, cork oaks, Scotch brooms and strawberry trees have been planted in order to re-establish the identity of the rural landscape.
